Whats in a name?

Three Socks Farm is named for the flashy, white leg markings, known as "socks," that adorned Anne's childhood pony, Alvin.  Anne had Alvin for nearly 21 years, before he passed away in February 2019 at the age of 26.  Alvin taught Anne the joys of riding, and especially the gratification of overcoming obstacles and the rewards of a strong human-equine bond.  It is Anne's wish that every person who enters Three Socks Farm can come to love a horse, as Anne loved Alvin.  It was only fitting that this place that honors Alvin in deed should honor him in name as well.

Our Journey

Owned and managed by Anne Morrison, Three Socks Farm is the culmination of years of experience, undying passion, and a clear vision.  Born and raised in Bedford County, Virginia, Anne grew up participating in the local 4-H and United States Pony Club, and eventually competed extensively in the South Western Virginia Hunter Jumper Association, as well as nearby 'A' shows.  She rode her own pony, Alvin, aka Meadow Creek's Orion, to numerous division and year end championships, as well as catch-riding for well-known breeders and trainers in the area.   While earning a B.A. from James Madison University, Anne continued her equestrian education, with an emphasis on young horse development under the guidance of Maureen Waldron, Jason and Alisa Berry, Emily Guyer, Betty Stickley, and Diane Hinch.  In 2009, Anne declared her professional status with the United States Equestrian Federation and began as a free-lance trainer and instructor, offering lessons and training to Shenandoah Valley horse owners wishing to learn better communication with their horse.  In 2012, Anne had the fortunate opportunity to build a very successful lesson program out of Sunset Willow Stables in Edinburg, VA.  In October 2018, Anne and her husband, Jeff, purchased the former Pleasant View Stables, now the site of Three Socks Farm.   After several months of thoughtful remodel and facility renovation, Three Socks Farm opened its doors to clients in April, 2019.  Now, Anne offers the highest quality full service board, lessons, and training, just steps away from her back door, with convenient access to I-81.

“I am in the lesson program at 3SF. I ride once a week. Anne has made 3SF such an amazing and welcoming environment! About a year ago Anne asked me if I wanted to start helping out there a few times a week. 3SF quickly became my home away from home. Anne is such an amazing person and teaches you not only about riding, but also about good horsemanship. She always make sure people understand the fact that horseback riding is a partnership and both rider and horse need to be happy and healthy! I can’t put into words how thankful I am that I found Anne and 3SF!”

— Cecilia (student since 2019)

“Anne Morrison is remarkable! She not only develops a horse and rider relationship, but also builds her relationship with rider to ensure she is facilitating a great learning experience and riders development. She ensures her teachings are best suited to riders experience and ability.

Most importantly, her focus is always on equine care. Ensuring that all horses in her care are receiving the most responsible methods, never jeopardizing their health or comfort.

Her farm continues to improve and grow, providing a ‘next level’ facility to the Shenandoah Valley. This facility is one that all equestrians should desire involvement in!!!

— Jacob Tellinghuisen (working with Anne since 2010)
